Second Chance for a Rescued Bun

In March 2023, I rescued Connie, a 6y/o rabbit, who had been living in a 2×2 cage, without ever having seen a vet, for her whole life. Her owner knew me from a local rabbit group, and after repeated calls, told me she planned to abandon poor Connie if she couldn’t re-home her. I reached out to every local rescue, but no one could take her in. Because she had nowhere else to go, I took her in myself.

At her first vet visit, Connie was diagnosed with stasis, several kinds of cancer, severe dental problems, and malnutrition. Her issues were so severe, several of her nails fell off during the examination.

Over the past year, she has undergone 5 surgeries and around-the-clock-care from my partner and I. She is now, thank goodness, cancer free. However, she still has ongoing dental issues which require thousand-dollar surgeries every few months. I make $32K/year and support both myself and my partner, who also has severe health issues and cannot work. Connie’s treatment to date has put me deeply in debt. She has another tooth surgery scheduled for tomorrow.

I humbly ask for your help to give Connie the life she deserves.

Connie (Consolata) came into my life a few days after my long-time companion bun (and, truly, one of the loves of my life) Cookie, passed away. I rescued Cookie in 2016: at that time, Cookie was scared, anti-social and semi-aggressive. But over years of learning and growing together, we bonded deeply. It remains one of the highlights of my life to have seen Cookie blossom into the confident, super loving and very happy bun they became with patience, love and a second chance at life.

When Connie’s owner reached out to me days after Cookie died, I was still in shock from the loss. I couldn’t imagine welcoming another bun into my home so soon, and told her that—I just wasn’t emotionally ready. However, this woman continued calling me and in our conversations, I realized how badly Connie was being treated. In honor of Cookie’s memory, I realized I couldn’t walk away from giving Connie the same second chance at life and happiness that I had given Cookie, and agreed to take her in.

While our first few months together were hard—vet visits 3-5x week, multiple surgeries, complications, medication every 6 hours, wound-tending, and more—I got to know her by sitting by her side. I found Connie to be a strong, hilarious bun who is, at her core, a survivor. In the face of everything—immense pain, leaving the life she knew behind—her message was clear: she wanted to live, and would fight as hard as she had to for this second chance. Her passion for life and her commitment to healing, even when it seemed, at times, impossible, comforted me in my grief about Cookie, and opened my heart to find a new love, this perfect little two-pound bun, Connie.

Connie is now, for the most part, healthy and—if I do say so myself—extremely happy. I can tell by her daily flops, nightly binkies and love of pets and cuddles. She reigns over her kingdom (free range on the second floor of a brownstone) with her bonded mate Chaos (their outfits match perfectly), and especially enjoys perching on top of the wooden castle Cookie loved to survey the lay of her land.  Her last owner fed her cheerios and never gave her hay, and she has come to realize the unlimited Timothy and morning selection of greens she gets are not to be avoided but devoured—in other words, she LOOOVES food! Connie is tough, bossy and demanding. She is also extremely cute, and every time she runs to greet me, or hops on my lap for treats, she reminds me why I love these creatures.

I am so happy Connie is in my life—she fills my days with joy and laughter. I want to offer this sweet, sweet bun a long and happy life—I want to continue learning about her fierce personality and no-nonsense attitude. But the financial burden of caring for her has been beyond stressful, and the financial scope of her ongoing care is much beyond my means. It is not sustainable for me to keep accruing debt from her healthcare, yet I am all she has and cannot bear the thought of having her suffer.

If you are able, I am desperate—please help me continue to treat the physical effects of abuse and mistreatment from Connie’s former life. With your help, this lovely bun will have the second chance she deserves—a life that she, in all her sassiness, would, I’m sure, demand.

Snowy’s Urgent Medical Journey: Emergency Stasis Surgery

Hello, my name is Yvonne, a proud pet parent of a lovely creature named Snowy. Snowy, who is more than just a pet and is essentially a cherished member of our family, has unfortunately been facing health issues for a while now. She has experienced stasis on several occasions and even had to undergo a dental surgery just last month. This string of health complications has not only been emotionally taxing but also financially straining.

Our pet insurance limit is set at £2000, and we have already exhausted more than half of this amount due to her previous medical needs. This has left us with a remaining coverage of about £850, which is distressingly insufficient considering our current bill. The medical expenses for Snowy’s treatment have already amounted to nearly £2900, and we anticipate that this will escalate by at least £300 in the coming day. This could potentially increase further if Snowy’s condition requires additional care and treatment. The mounting costs are indeed overwhelming, particularly since my mother, Snowy’s other beloved pet parent, has been unable to work and has been dealing with reduced income for the past 5-6 months. Adding to our financial stress, I’m currently unemployed due to my own health issues.

On Monday night, we found ourselves rushing Snowy to emergency surgery to remove fur, gas, and fluids that were causing her critical health problems. The procedure was necessary but intense, and Snowy is now dealing with a significant amount of pain. She has been put on strong pain medication to help her cope. As part of her post-surgery recovery, she required intubation and has also received fluids and undergone various investigations to ensure her health is monitored closely. Currently, she is struggling with her food intake and is not eating on her own. The incision from this major surgery is about 15cm long – a testament to the severity of her condition.

We are reaching out to you today to ask for your support. Snowy means the world to us. She is a sassy little creature with a heart full of love. She brings laughter into our home, gives us strength during challenging times, and fills our lives with immeasurable joy. Her bonded partner, Stitch, misses her deeply. It’s their third night apart, and we can see how much he yearns for her presence. Despite her health issues, Snowy continues to exhibit toughness and resilience. Her spirit remains unbroken and we are incredibly proud of her!

Any support, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated. Together, we can help Snowy on her journey to recovery.

Buns Against Cancer

Hello, I’m Christy Lisle, the proud owner and caretaker of Wild Wind Ranch. As a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, we have a singular, powerful mission: to raise funds with the express objective of providing financial assistance to families who are grappling with the staggering costs associated with cancer treatment.

Our commitment extends beyond just fund-raising. At the core of our operation is a deep love and respect for bunnies. As responsible bunny owners, we take great care to ensure their health and well-being. This includes taking the essential step of spaying our bunnies. We do so for two primary reasons.

Firstly, we aim to prevent the occurrence of uterine cancer. This is a common health issue in unspayed female bunnies, and by spaying them, we significantly reduce this risk.

Secondly, our commitment to responsible ownership means we strive to avoid any unnecessary breeding. We believe that each bunny deserves a loving and caring home, and overpopulation can lead to many bunnies living in less than ideal conditions.

For us, our bunnies are more than just animals in our care. They are cherished members of our family. We have taken them into our home with the sole intention of providing them with a better, safer, and more loving environment than they may have otherwise known. Their happiness is our happiness, and each day, we find immense joy in watching them hop and bounce around the house, full of life and energy.

The thought of something happening to them, particularly something as preventable as ovarian cancer in female unspayed bunnies, is unimaginable. As such, we are fully committed to doing everything within our power to ensure they live long, healthy, and happy lives. They are part of our family, and we strive every day to give them the love and care they deserve.

Urgent Assistance Required for HoneyBun

HoneyBun, my beloved pet, is currently facing a health crisis and desperately needs assistance. She requires immediate medical attention, including a spay and several other essential services. The latest reports from her tests are concerning; they indicate a need for a recheck of her complete blood count (CBC) in the next 7-10 days due to a progression of blood loss caused by mild degenerative anemia. Alarmingly, the email I received yesterday from her veterinarian suggested that she may be experiencing a hemorrhage.

I am wholeheartedly committed to doing everything within my power to cover the steep costs of her treatment, which are presently estimated to be around $3,400, although this may increase depending on her needs. Therefore, I’ve set the fundraising goal at $4,000. Unfortunately, her recent medical visits have already cost thousands of dollars, depleting any extra savings and impacting my current income. This has led to late payments on my regular bills, which I am still trying to catch up on.

To manage these costs, I’ve taken several measures: donating plasma, taking on extra shifts at work, and selling personal items, including some of my artwork. However, these efforts are still not sufficient to cover the costs of her medical care. HoneyBun is more than just a pet; she’s my best friend, my companion, and a source of comfort and love. The thought of delaying her much-needed surgery any further is unbearable.

I was initially hesitant about trusting other veterinarians in my area until I fortunately found Dr. Tyson. However, I now find myself in a position where I may not be able to provide HoneyBun with the care she urgently needs, and this is a reality I cannot accept.

Words are not enough to express the profound gratitude and love I have for HoneyBun, especially in light of my struggles with severe anxiety. Her mere presence has always been a calming influence, making each day a little more manageable. HoneyBun is loving, playful, opinionated, strong, and impressively resilient. She has helped me learn patience, showed me the meaning of unconditional love in moments when I doubted my own worth, and continues to be a source of joy and companionship.

Despite her ongoing health issues, she remains playful, spirited, and food-loving. I am determined to work as hard as I can to continue providing the care she deserves and needs. My goal is to alleviate her pain, improve her health, and reduce her dependence on medication. I am hopeful that with your help, we can ensure HoneyBun gets back on a healthy trajectory and continues to live her life as fully and comfortably as possible.

Please Help Our Sweet Little Julie!

Hello everyone, my name is Greg and I am reaching out to all of you with a plea from the heart. I am setting up this fundraiser for our beloved little Julie, or as we affectionately call her, Juliebear. Julie has been a part of our family for the past 4 years and her situation has now prompted us to seek your assistance.

At the start of 2022, we began to notice that something was amiss. Julie wasn’t acting like her usual energetic and bubbly self, which was deeply concerning for us. It was this change in her behavior that led us to consult Dr. Sari Kanfer, a highly respected veterinarian and a vital member of an incredible group of professionals.

Upon examination, Dr. Kanfer diagnosed Julie with an abscess, a health issue that has since then required constant medical attention. Throughout this ordeal, Dr. Kanfer has been an unwavering pillar of support, providing Julie with the finest care possible. Her compassion and dedication towards Julie have been truly remarkable. In fact, she once took Julie to her own home for an overnight stay just to ensure she was recovering well. I can confidently say, I wouldn’t trust anyone else with the care of our beloved Julie.

Julie’s condition has caused her immense pain and since the beginning of 2022, we’ve been administering medicine (Meloxicam) to alleviate her discomfort. Recently, following another procedure, Dr. Kanfer has directed us to give Julie Amikacin shots once a day, in addition to her regular medicine. Unfortunately, her condition has deteriorated, with the abscess infecting her bone. Julie now requires another surgery.

Julie is not just our first pet, she is a cherished member of our family. Her bond with her best friend Maxy is beautiful to witness and they have both brought immeasurable joy to our lives over the years. Julie’s big olive-like eyes, cute little cheeks, and her playful nature make her irresistible to anyone who meets her. Her intelligence, sassiness, and her amusing love for bananas have enriched our lives in ways we could not have imagined. Each morning, we let Julie and Maxy out to play in our backyard, and come sundown, they would dutifully return indoors, waiting for their dinner and treats.

Regrettably, the mounting cost of Julie’s medical expenses has placed a significant financial strain on us. We have utilized a Care card to cover her medical needs, but the balance continues to increase, making it increasingly difficult for us to keep up with the payments, especially given the current economic climate. Our debt related to Julie’s treatments has escalated to $9,000.

Any donations to help offset some of this debt would be immensely appreciated. Your support will allow us to proceed with the necessary steps for Julie’s ongoing care. Remember, no amount is too small and any contribution will make a significant difference.

Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for considering our appeal. Your kindness and generosity mean the world to us and our little Juliebear.

With all our love and gratitude,

Greg
