Savior Successes

Here are some of the great success stories of rabbits with major injuries that recovered to live happy, fulfilling lives.

Golu's Molars

Hello!! This is Golu’s bun mom and here I would like to share his success story. I live in a country which isn’t much advanced for exotic animals and that’s what led to a whole lot of issues. I had a pretty good idea about the importance of hay in a rabbit’s diet since I adopted Golu. Unfortunately neither I could find hay in any of the local pet shops nor in any of the pet sites. Though a 12-year-old me did all research about dental issues still I couldn’t do anything to avoid it. Golu was healthy and happy for the first 4 years of his life until December 2019 when he stopped eating for the first time. I understood that his molars are overgrown therefore he is unable to eat. He still ran after food enthusiastically but was unable to chew it. His mouth used to bleed; I knew this as well that there aren’t any exotic vets in my city or in any nearby cities. I was completely helpless in that phase. Seeing my parents not at all bothered with his conditions, I got to know that they never loved him. After 6 months of him not eating, I got his first dental surgery done when my dad went to another city for some work purposes. To my surprise, Golu survived on the leaves paste for over 6 months. His first surgery didn’t have a long term effect. He ate for over a month and then again stopped eating. And that’s when the real story starts. I was 100% sure that my parents won’t be taking him again to another city this time. No exotic vet nearby. Nobody to support. It was all me and my rabbit-“My deepest love”. ALL I KNEW AT THAT TIME WAS “GOLU IS MY RESPONSIBILITY. HE IS MY LOVE.I AM HIS EVERYTHING AND I NEED TO SAVE HIM NO MATTER WHAT!!”. Though it wasn’t possible for me to all together travel to another city, there was yet a hope of an exotic vet coming to mine. I got in contact with all the exotic vets in the country and openly told them about Golu’s problem and all my restrictions. All of them felt miserable seeing our condition but none agreed to travel except one. And that one vet is the best vet and a beautiful human-being DR. SHIWANI TANDEL. She knew that I am 17 years old and therefore took all the responsibility on her. I did a fundraiser for golu and transferred the entire amount to her. Though it was less, she still came and operated on Golu. She booked the flight tickets by herself, contacted a vet from my city and also took troubles to arrange an oxygen cylinder and clinic herself. She performed the surgery and extracted his 2 molars and ensured me that he won’t face any further issues for the next 4 to 6 months. My little strong boy started to eat by himself. It’s been 4 months and he is eating quite well. Though I couldn’t focus on my academics in the past few months yet I learnt “the best” lessons and met few “best souls” ever existing in this world. The two saviors who saved Golu and supported us in our worst phase of life-Firstly, Dr.Shiwani Tandel, the only vet who agreed to travel for Golu. Secondly, Jonathan Silva who donated $300 dollars for Golu. These two are the splendid epitome of helpfulness whom I’ll cherish throughout my life. All of the Golu’s sweet and cute Instagram friends and their bun-parents always kept my hopes high with their warm messages during that phase when I was completely hopeless. At last, I would just like to highlight a few things-

1.) Hay is immensely important for bunnies. A rabbit’s diet should include at-least 85 percent of hay.
2.) Never give up. If you are a bun-mom or a bun-dad then never leave your bun’s side in any situation. They are completely dependent on you for everything. You are their world. Never let them suffer. They deserve the best!

These are true stories that are posted here to inspire hope and remind everyone to ALWAYS get a second opinion. No matter how bleak things might seem, don’t give up. Find another vet and tell them you are prepared to go the extra mile. Rabbits can still have a wonderful, fulfilling life even with an amputation or injury.

Bugs is a 6 kilo German Giant. Bugs broke her knee and our vet told us to put her down asap. We have no clue how she broke her knee, I suddenly saw her limping and hopping around (on 3 paws)…
