where to Adopt a rabbit

Finding a Rescue

Rabbits are wonderful creatures and a great addition to your family. We strongly recommend adopting from a credible rescue. Here is some info to help find a great rescue near you.

Why adopt from a rescue?

Rescues tend to have healthy rabbits that have been receiving loving, expert care once rescued. Rescues take in rabbits from local shelters, neglectful owners, and just about anywhere that rabbits are discarded. Good rescues are significantly different from shelters. Shelters are typically just a temporary stop for abandoned rabbits. Their main focus is getting rabbits off the streets and many even euthanize rabbits that they cannot place. Rescues tend to have more knowledgeable staff who are focused on the rabbit’s quality of life. Rescued rabbits have usually been sterilized and have received a full health check up, ensuring that they are ready to be placed with a loving owner.

What to ask when looking for a rescue

If you cannot find a rescue on our list below, try to find a rescue in your area and ask them some basic questions. The goal is to find out the quality of care provided and the knowledge of the staff. These are key when you’re searching for a happy, healthy bun. Start with the following questions –

  1. What do you do to socialize your rabbits? A good rescue will have the rabbits socialize with their staff on a regular basis.
  2. How long have they been part of the rabbit community? Obviously the more experience the better.
  3. Have all your rabbits had health checks with a qualified expert? A good rescue will have all of their bunnies checked when they arrive and at any time they appear to have problems or symptoms.
